Succulent roasts, Thanksgiving Day turkeys and the wine to accompany such feasts require the flawless work of hardworking appliances found in modern homes worldwide. Sub-Zero Group, Inc. manufactures high-end wall ovens, gas ranges, built-in ovens, refrigerators, wine storage units and numerous other cooking and preservation appliances for home use. Based in Madison, Wis., the company operates manufacturing facilities in Madison, nearby Fitchburg and just outside the Phoenix area in Goodyear, Ariz.
Meeting the demand of residential customers, Sub-Zero Group, Inc. employs high cosmetic and functional standards at all of the company’s manufacturing facilities. Bending and forming stainless steel parts proved challenging, however, as subpar tooling left marks on finished parts and required frequent replacement.
“For many years we used basic planer tooling,” said Garrett Rass, manufacturing engineer in the fabrication division of Sub-Zero Group, Inc. “At that point in time we had issues bending stainless. It was difficult to find two punches that would match up well enough to provide a length of tooling that wouldn’t leave tool marks on the finished part.”
